Newborn Photographer in Sidney, BC
Relaxed, in-home newborn sessions for Sidney families, with an optional seaside stroll if you’re feeling up to it.

Those first days with a newborn go by in a blur of feeds, cuddles and very little sleep. It’s easy to forget how tiny their fingers were or how they curled up on your chest. Newborn photos are a way to hold on to all of that.
I’m Alyssa, a newborn and family photographer from North Saanich, just next door to Sidney. I have three kids of my own, so I know how overwhelming those early weeks can feel. My sessions are slow, gentle and built around your baby’s needs.
Most of my Sidney newborn sessions happen right at home, and for good reason.

A simple timeline for Sidney parents
Planning a newborn session is a little different from other sessions, because the timing depends on your baby’s arrival. Here’s how it usually works.
- During pregnancy: get in touch and book using your due date, since my availability is limited
- After booking: you’ll receive a prep guide, a style board and a short questionnaire
- When baby arrives: send me a quick message and we’ll pick a date
- 5 to 10 days old: the ideal window, while babies are still very sleepy and curl up easily
- Up to about 3 weeks: still a lovely time if baby arrives early, late or life gets busy
What an in-home newborn session looks like
It can be hard to get out of the house right after your newborn arrives, so I come to you. Your Sidney home becomes the backdrop: the nursery you’ve been preparing, your bed with the morning light, the couch where you’ve spent every late-night feed.
There’s no need for a spotless house. I’ll find the nicest light, usually near a window, and we’ll work in one or two rooms. I’ll photograph all the tiny details, like fingers, toes, yawns and even little ears, and then the connection between you: a kiss on the forehead, a sibling gently holding a hand, Dad rocking baby to sleep.
Before I arrive, turn the heat up a little so baby stays cosy in a light wrap or swaddle, and open the curtains to let in as much daylight as possible. Choose simple, soft outfits for the rest of the family, in gentle tones that go together without matching exactly. Then relax. I’ll guide every step, and you can stay in comfy socks the whole time.
We go at baby’s pace. If they need to feed or be changed, we simply pause. Most often I like to include a few family photos too, as these become some of the most treasured images. For practical tips, read my post on preparing for an in-home newborn session.
If you’d like a little fresh air
Depending on the season, outdoor newborn photos are a favourite of mine. In Sidney, we don’t need to go far. Eastview Park, beside the Bevan Fishing Pier, has open lawn, garden displays and benches, so you can sit comfortably with baby while the sea sits quietly behind you.
Lochside Waterfront Park, on Lochside Drive, has a paved upper path that’s usable in all weather, with benches and garden displays along the way. A slow stroll with the pram and a few photos on a bench can be just enough outing for a new family.
For outdoor newborn photos, we’ll keep things short, choose a mild part of the day and bring plenty of blankets. Your baby’s comfort always comes first.
Questions families ask
What if my baby won’t sleep during the session?
That’s perfectly normal. Lifestyle newborn photos are about real moments, so wide eyes and little stretches are just as precious as sleepy ones.
Should siblings be home for the session?
Yes, I’d love to include them. Big brothers and sisters meeting the new baby make for some of the sweetest photos.
How long does a newborn session at home take?
Newborn sessions follow your baby’s rhythm, so we never rush. Feeds, changes and cuddles are all part of the plan, and I’ll let you know what to expect when we book.
Do you photograph other sessions in Sidney?
I do. Families, maternity, couples and more are listed on my Sidney photographer page.
How do I see packages and prices?
Everything is listed on my investment page, and you can read more about my approach on my newborn photography page.
