Photographer in Brentwood Bay

Calm water, boats and mossy inlet trails on the Saanich Inlet side of the Peninsula.

couples photo session, Brentwood Bay

Brentwood Bay is a waterfront village in Central Saanich, tucked along Saanich Inlet. Water, boats and the forested hills across the inlet give every photo a peaceful, layered background.

If you are searching for a photographer in Brentwood Bay, I offer couples, engagement, maternity, family and newborn sessions. I keep the mood relaxed and romantic in a modest, natural way, with lots of gentle prompts so you can simply enjoy each other.

Brentwood Bay is a quick drive from my home in North Saanich and well inside my 25 km travel area, so there is no travel fee to plan for.

Brentwood Bay spots I love suggesting

Brentwood Bay is small, but it gives us both a waterfront stroll and a forest walk within a few minutes of each other.

  • The Brentwood Walkway: a short, mostly flat oceanside path that winds through Ravine Park, with benches and views of the marina and Saanich Inlet. It takes about 15 minutes each way, which is perfect for little legs and for a relaxed maternity walk.
  • Brentwood Wharf: a public wharf where boats and water add a seaside story to couples and engagement photos.
  • Tod Inlet in Gowlland Tod Provincial Park: reached off Wallace Drive near Brentwood Bay. The trails around Tod Inlet are gentle, and the shoreline is calm and sheltered. The park protects mature forest, arbutus and pockets of Garry oak, and the inlet area has history from the old cement works of the early 1900s.

Couples and engagements by the inlet

Brentwood Bay is a natural fit for couples and engagement sessions. A slow walk along the water, a quiet moment on a bench, then a wander into the forest at Tod Inlet gives you a gallery with real variety.

I focus on connection rather than stiff posing. You will get help with flattering angles and what to do with your hands, but most of the session feels like time spent together. If you are planning ahead, my guide to preparing for an engagement session covers outfits and timing.

If there is something meaningful you would like to include, like a family heirloom or a letter you wrote to each other, let me know ahead of time and we will find a natural way to work it in.

What a Brentwood Bay session looks like

Most outdoor sessions here start with a slow stroll on the walkway, a few moments on a bench and then a little wander toward the water. In summer, I aim for the last hour or two before sunset. In fall and winter, an afternoon start catches the softer light before it fades.

If the forecast turns, we can move into your home. Brentwood homes with big windows make a lovely, bright setting for an in-home session.

Maternity and newborns in Brentwood Bay

The flat walkway is kind to tired feet, which makes it a lovely choice for maternity photos. Sessions are about an hour, I have a few dresses in my client closet, and I can refer you to hair and makeup artists.

For newborns, I recommend staying home between 5 and 10 days after birth, when babies are sleepiest. Brentwood homes with water views or big windows give us beautiful natural light for an in-home session.

For outfits against blue water and green hills, soft creams, blush, sage and dusty blue all look lovely. I suggest avoiding neon colours and busy patterns, which pull attention away from your faces. Layers are smart too, since evenings by the inlet can cool off quickly.

Alyssa had such an amazing way of helping us feel relaxed and have fun! I’m so happy with how the photos turned out and she really captured each one of my children so beautifully. I will always cherish these photos and HIGHLY recommend hiring her!

Questions families ask

What time of day is best on the Brentwood Bay waterfront?

Evening light is soft and flattering on the water, so I often suggest the last couple of hours before sunset. In winter that is earlier in the afternoon.

Is the Tod Inlet trail stroller-friendly?

The trails near Tod Inlet are described as gentle, but they are natural park trails, not pavement. A carrier is often easier than a stroller.

Can you photograph a proposal in Brentwood Bay?

Yes. I can help you plan a quiet spot and timing so the moment stays a surprise. See my proposal photography page for how it works.

Can we bring our dog to Tod Inlet?

Dogs are part of the family, but parks have their own rules near nesting areas and beaches. Check the current rules before you go.

Do you photograph small weddings or elopements in Brentwood Bay?

Yes. The waterfront and Tod Inlet both make a peaceful setting for an intimate ceremony or portraits afterwards. You can learn more on my elopements and small weddings page.
