Engagement Photos in Sidney and the Saanich Peninsula
A relaxed session that feels more like a date than a photoshoot, in places that mean something to you.

You said yes. Now there’s a wedding to plan, and somewhere in the middle of all those decisions, I hope you’ll make time to simply celebrate being engaged. An engagement session is a chance to do just that.
I’m Alyssa, a couples and family photographer based in North Saanich. Love and connection are what I enjoy capturing most. During your session I’ll guide you with easy prompts, like whispering something silly or walking slowly toward me, so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands.
It’s also the perfect rehearsal. By your wedding day, you’ll know how I work, I’ll know your best angles, and being in front of the camera won’t feel new. You can learn more on my couples and engagement photography page.

Start with your story, then pick the place
The best engagement locations often have meaning. Where did you have your first date? Where do you walk on Sunday afternoons? Is there a beach you always end up at? On the Peninsula, there’s a good chance your place is nearby, and I’d love to hear about it.
If nothing comes to mind, choose a setting that matches your personalities. Adventurous couples tend to love a hilltop. Laid-back couples often feel most at home on the beach. And if you love a bit of town life, a seaside stroll in Sidney might be perfect.
Three Peninsula settings for engagement photos
Island View Beach Regional Park, on the east shore in Central Saanich, has a long sandy beach backed by dunes, an old salt marsh and wetlands. Walking barefoot along the sand, wrapped in a blanket as the light fades, is classic engagement magic. The dunes are fragile, so we’ll stay on the beach and marked trails.
Bear Hill Regional Park, on Bear Hill Road in Saanich, has gentle woodland trails through Douglas fir, Garry oak and arbutus, leading to a summit with views over the Peninsula, Mount Baker and nearby islands. The CRD rates it moderate, so plan comfortable shoes for the walk up. At the top, the open view makes for sweeping, cinematic portraits.
Sidney’s Waterfront Walkway runs about 2.5 km with views to the Gulf Islands and, on clear days, Mount Baker. Sculptures, benches and the Bevan Fishing Pier give us plenty of variety, and it’s an easy place to finish with a treat downtown. Have a look at my Sidney photographer page for more about working in town.

Making the most of your session
This is a great time to get dressed up a little. Many couples bring two outfits, one casual and one dressier, so their photos have range. Coordinating colours look best, and solid tones photograph better than busy prints.
Engagement photos also do double duty. Couples use them on save-the-dates, wedding websites and guest books, and as framed prints for grandparents. Your full-resolution digitals come with printing rights, so you can use them wherever you like.
After booking, you’ll receive a prep guide, a Pinterest style board and a short questionnaire about the two of you. It’s my favourite way to learn your story before we meet.
Questions families ask
When should we book our engagement photos?
Many couples plan them a few months after getting engaged, which leaves time for save-the-dates. My availability is limited, so reach out once you have an idea of timing.
We’re awkward in photos. Will this work?
Almost every couple says that at first. I’ll guide you the whole way, and because we focus on how you interact rather than posing, you’ll loosen up quickly.
Can you also photograph our wedding?
Yes, I’d love to. See my wedding photography page for details.
Can we bring our dog?
Pets are family, so of course. Park rules vary by season, so check the current rules for the location before you go.
Do you cover the whole Peninsula?
Yes, from Sidney and North Saanich to Brentwood Bay and Saanichton. See my Saanich Peninsula photographer page.
