Maternity Photographer in Sidney
Calm, comfortable maternity sessions by the sea, planned around how you’re actually feeling.

Pregnancy is beautiful, and it can also be tiring. Swollen ankles, a growing bump and a to-do list that never ends. When I plan maternity sessions in Sidney, comfort comes first, and Sidney happens to be one of the gentlest places on the Peninsula for it.
I’m Alyssa, a maternity and family photographer from neighbouring North Saanich and a mom of three myself. I know how special, and how tender, this season is. My sessions focus on connection: your hands on your bump, your partner’s arms around you, your little ones pressing an ear to listen for the baby.
You can learn more about my maternity photography sessions in general. Here’s how I approach them in Sidney.

Easy-walking maternity locations in Sidney
A good maternity location shouldn’t require a hike. These Sidney spots are ones I love suggesting because they’re beautiful and kind to tired feet.
Lochside Waterfront Park, a long, narrow park on Lochside Drive where the Sidney waterfront stretches into North Saanich, has a paved upper path, a gravel lower path beside the beach, garden displays and benches. The Town of Sidney describes its sunrise views over the sea, so if you’re an early riser, a morning session here can be magical, with soft, quiet light and very few people around.
The Waterfront Walkway runs about 2.5 km with views to the Gulf Islands and, on clear days, Mount Baker. Its smooth surface and frequent benches mean we can stop and rest whenever you need, and a flowing dress against the open sea and sky is a timeless maternity look.
If you’d prefer shade and green, the KELSET (Reay Creek) trail follows a creek under a forest canopy. It’s about a 20 minute walk from end to end, though we’d only need a short section. The dappled light is very flattering, and it’s cooler on warm days.
Timing matters too. The waterfront faces east across the water, so mornings bring the brightest glow off the sea, while an evening session gives softer, more even light along the shore. During our free location consultation, I’ll help you pick whichever suits your energy. Some moms feel best early in the day, others after an afternoon rest.

Feeling your best on the day
Maternity sessions are typically about an hour. That’s long enough to try a couple of looks and short enough that you won’t be worn out. We’ll go at your pace, with plenty of breaks.
Not sure what to wear? I offer a free style consult, and I have a few outfits in my client closet if you don’t have something of your own. Flowy dresses or a skirt with a fitted top tend to show off your bump beautifully, and solid colours work well against Sidney’s blues and greens. If you’d like hair and makeup done, I can share referrals.
Bring anything meaningful, like an ultrasound photo, a tiny pair of shoes or a family heirloom, and let me know ahead of time so we can include it thoughtfully. Partners and kids are very welcome. Some of my favourite maternity photos show a big sibling hugging Mom’s belly.
If the weather turns or you’d rather stay close to the couch, maternity sessions can also be done in the comfort of your own home.
I had a maternity and brand new baby photo shoot and before that I hadn’t had my pictures taken much, so I was pretty nervous because I didn’t know how to pose or how to really get my picture taken. But Alyssa was so amazing and made me feel so comfortable and pretty and told me what to do which was great! She even let me do some things I thought were cute and was very kind and flexible and the pictures came out so magical. She captured so many beautiful moments and I couldn’t be happier!

Questions families ask
When should I book my maternity session?
Reach out as early in your pregnancy as you like, since my availability is limited. We’ll then choose a date when your bump is showing and you’re still feeling comfortable getting around.
Can I book maternity and newborn photos together?
Yes, and many families do. Newborn sessions are best at 5 to 10 days old, so it helps to plan ahead. See my newborn photography page for details.
Is Sidney within your travel area?
Yes, Sidney is right next to my North Saanich home base. See everything I offer locally on my Sidney photographer page.
What do I receive afterwards?
You’ll get a private online gallery with edited photos, plus black and white versions. My top two packages include a custom luxury album. Details are on my investment page.
